Description
The Cathedral of Orvieto is one of the most important monuments in Europe, a masterpiece of central Italy’s Gothic architecture. Its construction was commissioned by Pope Urban IV in 1290 and it took about three centuries of works that saw the alternation of artists such as Arnolfo di Cambio and Andrea Pisano. Famous all over the world is the magnificent facade, 53 meters high and decorated with beautiful bas-reliefs, golden mosaics and a majestic central rose window. Not least is the interior of the cathedral with frescoes by the greatest Italian painters of the time, including the well-known Last Judgment by Luca Signorelli. Tedora made this beautiful hand-chiseled miniature in 925 silver.
